FYI- Heads up!
For the next week there will be a group on the pathway surveying. Please use caution when walking or riding.
Six years ago, Master Gardeners Larry and Eileen Connell wanted to create a cactus garden along the Greenway path. They hoped to create a beautiful space and include their entire family in the project. In 2016 the Connell family of 50 came out to the pathway and that’s exactly what they did, created a cactus garden.
On Saturday, September 26th, they decided a family reunion needed to happen! They wanted to continue to add and maintain the cactus garden. 30+ members of the Connell family helped with weeding, planting, and hauling pea gravel.
Way to go Connell Family! The Yakima Greenway appreciates what you have done!
You can view this wonderful cactus garden as you’re walking the pathway between El Mirador and McGuire Playground.
Rebuild & Renew
Two weeks ago, the Yakima Greenway fell victim to a wild fire that destroyed over 30 acres of the Yakima River Corridor including the playground and Foundation office building at Sarg Hubbard Park.
Now that the smoke has cleared and plans to rebuild structures and restore our natural habitat begin to take shape, we would like to thank the many Firefighters from around our county who helped to save our Greenway from further destruction and protected the lives of those who were on the Greenway that afternoon.
We would also like to thank our community for the many calls offering support as we move forward.
You can HELP your Greenway during this time by making a contribution today!
Or send a check to: Yakima Greenway 111 S 18th Street Yakima, WA 98901
The restrooms at Sarg Hubbard Park are currently open.
If you are heading out to the Greenway, please remember to bring water & sunscreen. Continue to practice social distancing.
Please remember that the gates close at 9pm at Sarg Hubbard (upper parking lot), Sherman Park & 16th Ave. Summer hours
WE RUN ON VOLUNTEER POWER:
If you are looking for a great social distancing activity to get you out of the house and helping your community... Give the Yakima Greenway a call and become a volunteer.
We are currently looking for water cart drivers, trash collectors, weed pullers and tree trimmers. If you like trail clean-up and clearing... we have a job for that. If you have a special skill in gardening or painting, we have a job for that too!
The Yakima Greenway team practice safe social distancing and can provide you with PPE (personnel protective equipment).
