A Message from our Director

- Kellie Connaughton -

Like you, these past 8 months has brought tremendous challenges to the Yakima Greenway. Fundraising events, birthday parties, wedding celebrations, family reunions and much more were either postponed or cancelled. Then on September 7, a fire occurred that destroyed the Foundation office, the playground at Sarg Hubbard park and a large portion of habitat along the Yakima River.

But with every challenge comes opportunity. Because more people are rediscovering the Greenway, the increased demand means the parks and pathways are busier than ever. Kids are fishing in the ponds, families are gathering, folks are out running, biking and socializing. Through it all, the Yakima community and loyal Greenway members like you have been there for us with gifts of support and offers to volunteer. Because of you the trails and parks are open while keeping everything clean and sanitized. THANK YOU.

The reality is that the loss of fundraising revenue, park reservations and with insurance, we still find ourselves with a shortfall as we begin to rebuild and restore.

What your gift today will do:

Hire additional crews to keep our restrooms and structures sanitized.
Additional personnel to keep our pathways and parks safe.
Restore habitat for better public access to the Yakima River for recreation.
Rebuild and replace damaged buildings, roofs, and the playground at Sarg Hubbard park.

Our Goal is to raise $100,000 by December 31, 2020. Every penny will go towards the rebuilding from fire damage and aging infrastructure including the restoration and maintenance of trails and habitat along the Yakima and Naches river.

If you have not visited your Yakima Greenway lately, it is time to get out and rediscover the gift of the Greenway and all it has to offer.

THANK YOU for sending your most generous gift today.

Kellie Connaughton, Executive Director
