RUN ONE

RUN ONE
~4mi with approximately 100ft of elevation change

The race kicks off at Sarg Hubbard Park with a fast, scenic 3.65-mile run along the Yakima Greenway. Runners follow the path past quiet ponds and river-side stretches, settling into their pace as the course winds toward Harlan Landing with minimal elevation gain. The energy builds at the finish of this first leg, where racers transition at the river’s edge and prepare to launch into the next challenge - the kayak leg on the Yakima River.

Course Map:

Timing Chips:

Race Timing Chips will consist of the chip on a ankle/wristband. Iron/Solo racers must where there timing chip at all times throughout the race. If you are racing as a team, the participant doing the first run will collect the teams timing chip before the race begins. The runner will hand off the timing chip to the next leg participant (which in this case would be the kayaker). The chip will not read if it is concealed in any way (in a closed hand, your pocket etc). DO NOT LOSE YOUR TIMING CHIP. Teams & Iron participants are responsible for cost of replacing lost timing chips.

Registration:

A designated team representative must pick up the team’s race packet prior to the race. The packet includes the team timing chip, racing bibs, and T-shirts, and the designated representative is responsible for distributing these items to team members. There will be no extra racing bibs available at the exchange areas. Iron Division solo racers must pick up their own race packets prior to the race.

Equiptment:

Appropriate attire for a race on pavement is required. Earbuds, headphones or similar music/audio systems are NOT allowed to be used by the racers while competing.

After Your RUn:

After completing the first running leg, runners will arrive at Harlan Landing, the transition point to the kayak section of Gap2Gap. Teams will hand off at this location, where runners can exit the course and prepare for pickup. A large parking lot at Harlan Landing is available for team pickups, making it easy for runners to reconnect with teammates or support crews. Iron racers will continue on to the kayak portion of the race as normal.

A designated bag drop area will be available on-site for runners to leave personal items such as dry clothes, water, nutrition, or other gear. The bag drop operates on an honor system, so please be sure to clearly label your bag and collect the correct one after your leg is complete.

This transition marks a key moment in the race as teams shift from land to water, with kayakers launching from Harlan Landing to begin the next stage on the Yakima River. Please follow all posted signage and volunteer instructions to ensure a smooth, safe, and efficient transition for all participants.

Bag drop:

A designated bag drop area will be available at Harlan Landing for runners finishing the first running leg of Gap2Gap. Team runners may leave a bag with dry clothes and other personal gear to use after completing their run. Please attach a weather-resistant tag to your bag that clearly shows your team number and phone number. The bag drop operates on an honor system, so plan accordingly when deciding what items to leave. The area is not fully sheltered, so using a weather-resistant bag is strongly recommended.

For Iron Division solo racers, this bag drop area will be used to transition from the running leg to your kayak gear before launching onto the river. Please follow all posted signage and volunteer instructions to ensure a smooth and safe transition.

Parking/Pickup:

Parking at Harlan Landing is limited, and we ask all participants to help keep traffic in this area to a minimum. This area is designated for quick team pickup only for runners finishing the first leg. Please do not park or remain in the area to watch the race. Team pickups should be brief, with runners ready to load immediately. Use extra caution, as this will be a high-traffic area, and follow all volunteer and traffic control instructions to ensure a safe and efficient transition for everyone.
