ROad Bike

Road Bike
~15mi Time Trial out & Back course

The road bike leg begins at Sarg Hubbard Park and sends riders onto a fast, time-trial style out-and-back course built for speed. Cyclists charge past orchards and hop fields, pushing the pace while balancing effort and strategy. Strong riders know this leg is about more than raw speed, saving just enough in their legs before returning to Sarg Hubbard Park to transition into the demanding mountain bike course.

Course Map:

Equipment Rules:

Helmets are MANDATORY and cyclists must wear a bib number on them as well as on there bike at all times. Bikes must be in good condition. Fairings and motorized bikes/Ebikes of any kind are not allowed. Recumbent bicycles are not permitted except for handicapped racers (request approval prior to registration). Earbuds, headphones, or similar music/audio systems are not allowed to be used by the racers while competing.

Required Competency of the Bike Racer:

The bike racer must be capable of racing/riding on public roads that are open to motor vehicles. The racer is responsible for knowing the course. There will be a few signs on the course in designated areas including the turn around area but riders should familiarize themselves with course prior to race day.

Outside assistance along the course is not allowed and there are no services provided (other than emergency communications) along the course. Racers are allowed (not required) to help one another with repairs in order to complete the course. We recommend racers carry basic tools for on-course repairs. The racer should start with sufficient water and food for the entire course. There are no portable restrooms provided along the course. The bike racer is responsible for providing a safe bicycle. All racers should carry sufficient tools and supplies to take care of their own mechanical issues that may arise on the course, most notably, the racer should be able to repair flat tires.

Drafting of other bicycles is not allowed and riders should keep a safe distance from one another unless passing.

Course Rules:

Racers must obey all regular traffic laws unless directed otherwise by a Law Enforcement official. Law Enforcement officials will be directing traffic at the stop sign at Kendall Road and will give priority to bikes. Drafting of motor vehicles is not allowed.

Bicyclists must not cross the roadway centerline, except in case of an emergency. Littering on the course is not allowed! All wrappers, bottles, etc. must remain in the possession of the bicyclist.

Bike & Bag drop:

A designated road bike drop-off area will be available at Sarg Hubbard Park on race morning. Participants may drop off their road bikes prior to the start of the race and leave all necessary cycling equipment next to their bike, including helmets, shoes, and other gear needed for the road bike leg. Please ensure all equipment is clearly marked with your team number.

This area operates on an honor system, so plan accordingly when deciding what items to leave. Participants are responsible for ensuring their equipment is race-ready and properly set up before the start. Please follow all posted signage and volunteer instructions to help keep the transition area organized and running smoothly.

Mandatory Pre-Race Meeting:

There will be a pre-race meeting at 7:30 AM on race day. IT IS MANDATORY THAT ALL RACERS ATTEND THIS MEETING TO GET THE LATEST SAFETY INFORMATION ABOUT THE COURSE.

Registration:

A designated team representative must pick up the team’s race packet prior to the race. The packet includes the team timing chip, racing bibs, and T-shirts, and the designated representative is responsible for distributing these items to team members. There will be no extra racing bibs available at the exchange areas. Iron Division solo racers must pick up their own race packets prior to the race.

Timing Chips:

Race timing chips are worn on an ankle or wrist band and must remain visible and unobstructed at all times in order to be read. Iron Division solo racers are required to wear their timing chip for the entire race. Teams will use a single timing chip, which must be properly handed off between participants at each transition. The timing chip will not register if it is concealed in any way, such as in a pocket or closed hand. DO NOT LOSE YOUR TIMING CHIP. Teams & Iron participants are responsible for cost of replacing lost timing chips.
